Sound Beginnings

Sound Beginnings, a free resource from The Salvation Army, is a beginner brass band series aimed at students with only a few weeks of instruction under their belts! This series is a primer to the successful American Instrumental Ensemble Series, which produces excellent music for grades 1-4. Sound Beginnings should be considered grade 0.5.

  • The music is free, with no need to sign up. Simply click on a title below and download!
  • The music can be played with as few as two parts, or up to seven!
  • Each part only uses notes C-G, allowing for a very occasional high A or low B
  • Rhymically, the arrangements only use whole, half, and quarter notes.
  • Each arrangement has a short ending, and longer option, if lip fatigue is a concern.
  • Each part includes a simplified version, limiting the range to 3 notes
